The University of Michigan School of Dentistry’s Office of Admissions compiles a variety of statistics each year regarding their incoming class of dental students. Traditionally, this has been in the form of a spreadsheet for internal use. However, in recent years, the admissions team has been interested in making this information available to the public. The team also wanted this information to be displayed in a more visually appealing manner than just a simple spreadsheet.
My 3 main goals in producing this handout were to: 1. Make the information easy to understand, 2. Make the information visually appealing, and 3. Make the document easy to update. The admissions team would need to create an incoming class profile each year and someone on the admissions team would have the task of inputting the new information. I created the document using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I put emphasis on the admissions numbers, visualizing information when possible.
The outcome of this project was a photoshop document organized for easy editing and an accompanying step-by-step document to train admissions staff on how to update the document in the coming years.
