The University of Michigan School of Dentistry’s Office of Admissions conducts interviews for about 300 students each year. Each candidate interviews with 10 different individuals from the School of Dentistry and each of these interviews result in an evaluation submitted by the interviewer using an iPad. With 30 interviewers at each interview day, the admissions staff needed a resource for interviewers needing to navigate the iPad interface, log into wifi, and open the interview form.
Most interviewers enter the interview room a few minutes before interviews are to take place. With limited admissions staff on hand, the interviewers needed a quick reference guide to walk them through the process of setting up their iPad. I designed a job aid to be used by interviewers broken into 3 parts; connect to wifi, sign the online confidentiality form, and access the interview form. For people who may have missed or ignored the job aid given to them with their iPad, I wanted additional instructions to be included on the actual iPad. That way, if an individual opens the iPad and doesn’t know what to do, he or she would be reminded of the steps or be prompted to find the job aid for additional instruction.
The outcome was an iPad wallpaper with the 3 main steps from the job aid, pointing to the 3 icons used to accomplish those tasks. The wallpaper accurately points to the 3 icons whether in portrait or landscape mode.
