In nursing education, learning to interpret arterial blood gases is an important skill. As a portfolio piece, I decided to develop an eLearning course on the subject. As part of this course, I developed an interaction that allows users to manipulate lab values and see how it affects the final interpretation.
Built in Articulate Storyline 2, I used a series of sliders to display the correct interpretation of the ABG values. By sliding the values outside the normal range (high or low) a series of triggers and conditions associated with these values execute a trigger to display the final interpretation on a separate layer.
HOW THIS COULD HELP YOUR LEARNERS
Simulations like this can help learners test out whether they understand a process taught to them. This interaction is shown after an animated lecture explaining the process of interpreting ABGs. It helps users practice this skill in a safe environment. Based on the needs of your learners, I can create an interaction like this to help them test their understanding of a process or skill.
