This was purely a personal project to figure out how to do a “personality quiz” in Articulate Storyline. My wife is a huge fan of Harry Potter and it eventually rubbed off on me. We took a quiz online to sort us into one of the four houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It got me thinking…could I make something like this?
This was one of the first things I made using Articulate Storyline 2. A traditional quiz wouldn’t work since there’s always a right answer and wrong answer, which isn’t the case for personality quizzes. I set up a variable for each of the four houses and then each question had an answer that corresponded to one of the four houses. When a user selects an answer, it adds a number value to the variable for that house. In the end, depending on which variable has the highest final number, the user would see which house he or she is sorted into. I added a feature to allow users who were sorted into multiple houses equally to choose which house to be sorted into. After all, the sorting hat does take your choice into account!
HOW THIS COULD HELP YOUR LEARNERS
This quiz was purely for entertainment, but it could be used for learning as well. Perhaps you want to develop a quiz to figure out a learner’s leadership style and have that influence the information they receive later in a course. You can get creative with quizzes!
